Cocktail Garnishes & Garnish Picks Selection

Cocktail garnishes are not only visually appealing but also enhance the overall flavor and aroma of  drinks.

Let's take a look at some classic and creative decoration ideas:

Citrus Twists:

These thin spirals of citrus peel add a bright aroma and flavor to cocktails. They’re especially effective in cutting through sweetness from syrups or liqueurs.

You can make twists by thinly cutting the peel or create thicker spirals that envelop the inside of the glass for an elegant touch.

In my video below you can see how to use mini clothespins to secure fine garnish in place.

Citrus Wheels/Slices:

Cut citrus slices about ¼ inch thick.

Wheels are placed on the rim of the glass by slicing a slit up to the center.

Slices can be whole round slices or half-slices directly placed in the glass with the drink.

Use sharp knives and remove seeds for a pristine presentation.

The photo below shows the Tequila Sunrise Cocktail I prepared. Traditional additions to this cocktail are orange slices and maraschino cherries.

As you can see, I used a cocktail pick, also called a cocktail skewer, which is a bar utensil often used to spear cocktail garnishes like cocktail olives, cherries, and citrus fruit peels. The stick is then placed on the rim of a glass to decorate a cocktail and improve its visual appearance.

Fruit Wedges:

Ideal for tall cocktails like vodka tonics or highballs.

Limes work well for this cut.

Thicker wedges allow drinkers to squeeze more juice into the cocktail as they sip.

The photo shows Mojito, one of the most popular rum cocktails served today. Standard garnish: sprigs of mint and slice of lime.

A sprig of fresh mint adds a burst of aromatic freshness to your mojito. Lime Wedges: A slice of lime not only looks vibrant but also complements the zesty lime juice in the mojito. You can place it on the rim of the glass or float it in the drink.

Herbs and Edible Flowers:

Fresh herbs like mint, basil, or rosemary add fragrance and a pop of color.

Edible flowers like violets, pansies, or nasturtiums make your drink visually stunning.

In the photo below you can see how to decorate a stemmed glass using lime peel, mint and mini clothespins.

Flavored Rim Salts:

Wet the rim of the glass and dip it in flavored salt (e.g., chili-lime, smoked paprika, or lavender).

Adds a burst of flavor with every sip.

Chocolate Rim:

Perfect for sweet cocktails.

Coat the rim with melted chocolate and let it set before pouring the drink.

Apple Fan:

Slice an apple thinly, leaving the peel on.

Arrange the slices in a fan shape on the rim of the glass.

Garnishes not only make your cocktails look impressive but also contribute to the overall taste experience.
