Tiki Cocktails

 The Origins of Tiki Culture:

The term “Tiki” traces back to New Zealand and Polynesia. It’s Māori and refers to stone or wooden carvings resembling human figures. These carvings often depict Polynesian gods, ancestors, or other important figures.

As long-distance travel increased, the ancient Tiki culture became known to the Western world.

Ernest Raymond Beaumont-Gantt, also known as Donn Beach, opened the first Tiki-themed bar in Hollywood, California. His bar, Don the Beachcomber, set the stage for the Tiki.

Tiki culture is a blend of escapism, tropical aesthetics, and a dash of mystery—a true cocktail adventure!

Tiki cocktails are a delicious and exotic category of drinks that will transport you to tropical shores with swaying palm trees, sandy beaches and vibrant colors. Let's dive into the fascinating world of Tiki cocktails!

Below are photos of tiki cocktails. Tiki cocktails adorned with flamed fruits are not only visually captivating but also add a touch of excitement to your drinking experience.

What is a Tiki cocktail?

Tiki drinks are usually fun concoctions made with tropical rum. They are often served in fancy tiki cups.

Key ingredients for tiki cocktails include:

Rum: The star of the show! Tiki culture is closely related to rum, which gives an island atmosphere.

Lime Juice: Adds a tangy, citrus kick.

Syrups or fruit juices: pineapple, passion fruit and other tropical flavors.

Rich syrups: These include demerara (rich, dark sugar syrup) and orgeat (almond).

So while you sip your tiki cocktail, imagine yourself relaxing on a sun-drenched beach and enjoying the flavors of paradise!

This brilliant cocktail uses an alcohol-powered flame to roast citrus garnish! To create an interesting effect, the bartender adds cinnamon powder to stimulate the flame.
